Deciding the décor of you home is a fun experience, but it can be a little overwhelming. What if you design and decorate your entire home only to change your mind later? With so many options for wall décor, how do you decide your favorites? The great thing about wall décor is that it can be easily changed if you change your mind about it later or if it needs to be refreshed after a few years. You don’t have to limit your décor to one style, either. You can choose your favorite colors and patterns and choose different ways to decorate your walls so that you don’t have to narrow all the options down to one or two favorite styles. If you are thinking about changing up your wall décor, consider these popular trends:
1. Chalkboard Paint
Chalkboard paint is another great option that has become one of 2013’s hottest décor trends. Chalkboard paint comes in multiple colors and can be found in most home improvement stores. However, for all you frugal franks out there, you can make your own! It’s great in the kitchen for displaying menus and grocery lists and it brings a lot of fun to kid’s rooms and playrooms because you can actually encourage your child write on the walls, making you the coolest parent on the block.
2. Magnetic Paint
Painting a wall (or walls) with magnetic paint is a fun and non-permanent way to add pizzazz to your walls! The wall can look like a plain painted wall for special occasions, or it can feature different family photos each month hung by some of your favorite magnets. That’s right, it’s not called magnetic paint for nothing! This is particularly a great option for children’s room or playroom. Or if you have a tendency to change your mind on a regular basis, this was made for you!
3. Old Recipes
Old recipes used as wallpaper throughout the kitchen, as a backsplash, or just framed on a feature wall can easily add interest and personality. Making copies of recipes or blowing them up in size lets you look at your most cherished recipes every day without damaging them.
4. Wallpaper Wall Quilt
Have you ever found several wallpapers that you just love and can’t seem to pull the trigger on just one? Maybe you are looking for a unique way to use wallpaper but prefer to have more than one pattern? Either way, cutting up squares, diamonds, or other shapes, and putting them on an accent wall in a quilted pattern is a fun way to create a very interesting and unique look that is one of a kind!
5. Painted Chair Rail
If you like the chair rail look but don’t want to use molding, painting might be the way to go. Use two different colors and painter’s tape to create crisp lines.
6. Picture Frames
If you have several picture frames that aren’t being utilized, whip out some excess paint and get to work. You can paint them all the same color, or if you are feeling bold, pick a variety of colors! This is a fun, artistic option that doesn’t require much work. If you want the look, but don’t have many frames sitting around, thrift shops and yard sales are great places to snag inexpensive ones.
An accent wall covered in a map is a unique way to add interest to an older kids room or an office. Consider doing a map of the United States and mark important locations such as vacation spots and relatives’ homes with stickers or tacks to add a little more depth and interest.
8. Vinyl Wallpaper
Vinyl wallpaper and decals come in many different shapes and styles and can be easily found on website such as Etsy. You can buy vinyl decals in words, characters, shapes, and patterns. This is a great wallpaper option without the need for glue and is easier to install and remove than traditional wallpaper.
Stenciling is a great way to get the wallpaper look without having the cost and the mess. Even better, you have more pattern and color options with a stencil than you have with wallpaper. In fact, the design options and colors are almost limitless.
Cutting up intricate and detailed wrapping paper and decoupaging them onto a wall to create a picture or pattern is an easy and inexpensive way to create an artistic wall. You can also paint in details instead of using all wrapping paper to give some variation.
If all of these ideas inspire you, but you aren’t quite sure where to start or interior design isn’t something you enjoy, an interior designer from companies such as Designer Premier can help. You can work with a designer to help decide on the décor that matches your personality and the look that you want for your home.
